Has anyone bought a tv from a online vendor?
Any problems?
Good, Bad???
Your thoughts and experiences.
Because of the bad economy many of the stores that I have bought electornics from in the past have closed. About all that is left are the big box stores and the selection in tv's is centered mostly to entry level models.
For example Panasonic makes a plasma tv that is THX certified and I did see the pic on it and it was very good. I waited too long to buy as the store that sold it went out of business.
I did see a tv that I was interested in on the Newegg web site.
What scares me is buying then having it shipped and bounced around in shipping, etc.
Again,,, any thoughts and suggestions is needed! LOL

That is an area that you'll hear half of people say they have never had an issue and half will have had an issue.

You can find plenty of tips though and for the most part just be there to receive it. if the box looks damaged...dont accept it or make the UPS guy stay while you open to verify no damage. The biggest issue when it is damaged seems to just be all three parties (panel manufacturer, shipping carrier, and online seller) blaming each other for the damage.

Would i order a tv online? Yep you bet. Though if it was only 25-50 more in store i might be going ot the store instead just cause i'd rather have it now than later :)

Well, think of it this way. It got bounced around in a truck getting to the store in the first place. And, if you have it delivered from the store it'll get bounced around again. So really, there's no way to avoid it.

When you buy a large HDTV the UPS or FedEx guy is suppose to wait for you to check if it works or no LCD cracks first before signning off on the delivery... they're not suppose to leave it on the doorstep. If they refuse to wait, you can choose to refuse the shipment as a counter - this works especially well against FedEx delivery people, because most of them are actually FedEx contracted delivery trucks with a Fedex logo taped to it... they get paid for each successful delivery...

I bought my HDTV from amazon a few years ago. They, at the time, used a special delivery service so I didnt have to deal with UPS, fed-ex or whatever. They claimed it is delivered directly from the warehouse so it was minimal travel. Anyway, the TV came in perfectly and I still use it today. 4 years now.

I would imagine these days shippers know how to handle flat panels.

I ordered both of my current big screens from Amazon. Didn't have any problems with the heavy plasma or the lighter LCD.

HI
Thanks for the input!
I'll shop locally first.
I have bought from Amazon and Newegg many times and never had a problem.
It just scares me to spend a huge amount of money on something and then worry about dealing with someone on the west coast or other locations if there is a problem. I prefer a face to face scraming match! LOLOL
Thanks

I got my TV from a seller on Amazon - Paul's TV or something like that. Shipped via freight and came in one piece; freight company called to confirm the delivery time/day and brought the box into my apartment. I had to set it up myself, but no big deal. Satisfying purchase overall.
