Buying from Dell

Ok, so this is my first time buying from Dell. I ordered a complete system, and when calculating shipping and tax (I live in Cali), it showed the tax to be around $8.58 for a $1100 system.

Mind you, I'm ordering from Dell Home, not Dell Small Business

So, I finalize the shopping cart and check out. It still shows estimated tax at $8.58 for a system. I submit the invoice, get charged - and lo and behold: tax is now $98.48.

WTF? Where did the $90 come from???

Dude, you're getting a Dell. 😛

That $90 is probably the rest of the tax you should have been charged. You might be able to argue that with your cc company if you have the invoice stating $8.58.

No, he is wasting his money getting a $1,100 dell! He should have gotten in on any of the numerous sub $400 dell system deals then thrown in a 9800pro 🙂

The system is for my parents, not myself. They want a decent box with a flat screen - which I got them.

I just don't understand these tax games.
They can calculate the shipping accurately, but can't calculate the tax? I call BS.

Oh, yeah, and their Indian customer service is totally brain dead.

I guess, I will have to write them and may be dispute charges with the cc company.

i didn't know dell collected tax in cali.

i can tell ya the 8.58 is the tax on the warranty, which they collect in every state because the warranty is deemed sold in that state.

I did a quick search on other forums, and it looks like Dell Home systems isn't supposed to collect tax, while Dell Small Business does.

battling with customer support now... must ... resist ... cusrsing ...
