buying first car help!--Hyundai Genesis Coupe?

I started looking at a used g35 coupe. Or Lexus IS250.
But I want reliability.

How are these? How is the reliability?

This, or a newer Tiburon (boarderline for the tib, it doesn't look that great to me), or the Scion TC (double sunroof I like) are really the only cars I am interested in driving.

Lastly, can anyone direct me to some resources where I could figure out how much I should expect to get one for? I love this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010...QQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item518fc85216#v4-66

But apparently that is too high of a price and nobody wants to buy one at the reserve that dealer has set. Would I call up the dealer and say "look I'll buy this for $18k, right now"? Maybe other people are finding these for $17k elsewhere and so not buying from him.

need tips, direction, whatever.

Reliability should be fine on the lexus or g35 but repairs will be pricier than what most of us are used to, when they do pop up. Don't buy a scion, not now not ever, they are for guys who just got their first job working teller at the bank and think they are all growns up.

Lol, I like the dual sunroof a lot. Camry engine, reliable. Could get 2005 for < $10k good deal np. Not getting g35 coupe or esp IS250 (want manual, but their MT absolutely sucks)

Dunno your money situation but fwiw $20k buys you a couple year old G35 coupe MT with probably 20k miles on it and factory warranty left. Take one out for a spin :)

At this point the Scion tC has gotten pretty long in the tooth. The Mazda3 costs about the same, also has excellent reliability and is supposed to be better in pretty much every way.

guess I'm shallow, buying on aesthetic appeal. Few cars look cool enough that I want to drive them.

Get the Genesis Coupe!

I have a friend with a V6 track. He LOVES it. It's a very sexy looking car too, IMO.

Hyundai has really stepped up to the plate. You can even access the technical service manual online - for free. Very cool.

The warranty is pretty much first in class. I don't see how you can go wrong.

IS250 is woefully slow. It is probably the single, heaviest feeling car I've ever driven. My old Civic LX (2006) felt much quicker, and handled a ton better (with my 18" HFP rims.)

Man there is NO way I'd pay money for one of these. :)

IMO the Mazda is better looking, but that's personal taste.

I'm not against the Scion, by all accounts it's a very comfortable car for the price as well as being very reliable and reasonably economical. One thing I am against though is when people pretend that it's a sports car, which it most certainly isn't.

Too few horses for that amount of money.

I've had my Silverstone Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT with 6 speed manual for just about a month now and it's been fantastic. Weather has finally gotten better in Chicago so I've finally been able to ring her out a little bit and have some fun. Great, smooth power delivery and really comfortable ride. Can't wait to start modding and get it ready for Hot Import Nights

I'd rather get a 350z, STI/Evo, or a BMW 330i zhp(must have this), or maybe even a g8 gt, than all those cars you listed above.

Scion TC is an ok car, but it sure is boring. Also, you won't be fitting anyone above 5'5 in the back as their head will be resting against the rear glass.

Of course it's boring, it's an econo-car (despite Scion's laughable attempt to pretend that it's sporty.) A pretty nice econo-car sure, with lots of features for the price, but comparing it to a WRX, BMW or even a Genesis Coupe is a little odd. Apples to oranges.

Lol. Never heard it put that way but I wouldn't disagree.

Interestingly enough at my local chase branch, one of the employees has a brand new A5 sport. Not sure how you can swing a 40-50K car on a 40-50K salary

Purchased a TC back in 2004 when the car first launch for my now ex-wife. It was a decent car and we liked it much better than the Mazda3 at that time.

The dealer on the Ebay listing are bunch of assholes. I helped my buddy get a 2.0T Genesis Coupe and they talked their ass out of a sale. He went to a different dealer and got what he wanted the same day for $2000 less. Rick Case Hyundai wanted him to put a $500 deposit to transfer the color he wanted, because apparently "silver" is such a rare color these days.

the tc is cool? since when?

the g35 seems to be very reliable. repairs may be more expensive than other cars (don't really see why that would be the case as it's just a datsun with a very common datsun engine), but i would guess overall repair volume to be very low on that car.

$89 comprehensive for a G35c, not bad at all IMO. I was concerned this would be a problem but nope!

tC is really for the dual sunroof and stock sound system being good. I used to love the styling, now I just think the sunroof would be cool. It's got a camry engine so it's uber reliable. It's looking like that's what I'll have to drive. Can't justify the huge loan at the moment for any of the other cars-- maybe if the g35 had more reliability, or the Genesis coupe if that 100k mile warranty extended to the second owner I would probably be ok with buying one of them. I'll re-evaluate in a few years once everything is paid off.
