Buying entry level video card

I am using GeForce 6100 built-in graphics with 17" 1280x1020 LCD monitor. I want to use another 17" LCD monitor that's just sitting on the desk. Since I don't play any game at all, I am considering 8400GS video card with 2 monitor connectors, DVI and D-Sub, one each, for about $45. I want to ask you if there is a compelling reason for me to get 9600GT, the latest technology for $180, or older 8600GT for $100.

If you're just using this computer for 2-D office work, there's no reason to spend the extra money.
