I'm in the market for an elliptical trainer, nothing too crazy. I want to stay around $500. What have you guys purchased in this price range? Like I said I'll be happy with it as long as it doesn't fall apart on me.

It'll only get me ~11 months at the local high school gym, which is the only facility within 15 miles. Try not to convince me to go to a gym, I've already made up my mind that I want to purchase one. Anyone else?

I have a ProForm SpaceSaver, I think maybe this one:

It's nice because you can fold it up and roll it in a corner when you're done. It has a fan, some programs, and it's fairly quiet. If you have an iPod, just get a cheap case and velcro-tape it to the dashboard while you're working out. The only bummer is you have to assemble it. I highly, highly recommend going to a local sports store and trying them out. My wife and I tried out a lot before we found one we liked, then we went online and got it a lot cheaper :)

Oh and I would recommend a yoga mat or some big rubber kitchen mats to put underneath it if you aren't using it in a carpeted room, otherwise it will slide around. Also some sandbags or something on the back legs can help keep it stabilized when you're really pushing it (not necessary but helps).

I picked up a Reebok elliptical via dicks sporting goods online store. I have used it for about two years 3-4 times/week and love it. It still works like new and it is iFit compatible.

These things are magnificent for getting into shape. As long as you stretch before and after you will hardly notice any pain beyond the normal "over doing it muscle burn". I have some long standing knee conditions and pay dearly after running but I can hop on one of these bad boys an hour at a day and feel amazing. Combined with a high resistance setting you can burn a heaping pile of calories as well (think 1000+ in an hour for someone in good shape)

We bought a New Balance 9000 and really like it. It has a small footprint, but handles more weight than some other models (300 lbs) and seems to built well. I like it.

check craig's list. tons of people buy it then it collects dust then they get rid of it cheap.

we have some pretty decent proforms around that price. A little more and you can get a nordictrack.

I was about to post the same thing. Used is the way to go with exercise equipment, unless you're DEAD SET on a specific model.

With $500 I'd buy a recumbent bike instead.

I don't think you'd find a good used elliptical for $500. *shrug*
