Buying directly from distributors in Maryland. What certificates do I need?

I'm looking to start a side business working as a independant consultant. I'd like to buy parts from distributors rather than from resellers to keep profits high. My question is, what certificates do I need? If it's a business, it would be a sole proprietorship, through my SS# I suppose. I've looked through the SBA and Maryland gov sites, but everything seems very confusing, and I'm not about to pay a attorney $500... Any help would be much appreciated.

As a sole prop. all you would need is a business license and a resale certificate (Sales & Use Certificate)...

You may also want to get a D.B.A. (normally about $10.00)

All you need from the link above is the sales & use tax form...

Also, if you are within a city, make sure you do not have to have a business license from both city and county...

I have found that distributers are more expensive than Newegg. I signed up for a few and still buy from Newegg. As a small consultant you don't buy enough quantity to get a good discount.

Unless you are buying in bulk, you probably won't get much cheaper than regular Internet prices.

Newegg sells at very slim margins for some things (like processors), not much more than the cost in 1000 unit quantities for AMD processors at least.
