Buying DDR 400 PC3200

Hi Guys,

I'm going to be buying new RAM withing the next week and wanted to ask your advice.

I've currently got 3 x 512k RAM modules (1.5GB) but I'm buying 2 matched 1GB modules and was wondering what affect running the 2 x 1Gb and 2 x 512k modules.

My mobo (Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI) can handle 4GB max and only has 4 ram slots.

Just need to know if running with the old memory as well is a good idea? Will I get dual channel for bth sets of RAM? If so will I have to have them set up any particular way ie.1GB in slot 1 and 3 and the 512's in slot 2 and 4? Is having the 2GB going to actually be better than running 3GB? Will the new setup cripple my memory and prevent dual channel running?

Thanks in advance for any help 🙂

You'll be able to run in dual-channel mode with all 4 DIMM's installed, but depending on the RAM & the motherboard's limits you'll almost certainly need to run @ 2T &
at the timings of the slower pair of DIMM's ... its also possible you'll be stuck running your RAM at 333mhz, but many motherboards have overcome this limitation.
