Buying DA:O Awakening not from Steam, even though my DA:O is Steam

Can this be done? I want to buy DA:O Awakening from GamesPlanet (Only 12.99 pounds) but my DA:O copy is a Steam version. Or am I stuck with Steam?

Secondly I purchased it from Canada, so will Steam get bitchy I'm using a UK version?

All to save a few bucks...
 
Not entirely sure about the Steam version, but I have a Impulse version of DA:O and bought a hard copy of DA: Awakening, and it ran fine.
 
I find some games let me apply the key on Steam, and some don't. I don't know how to confirm which will in advance, except where users have said if it works.
