We'll probably be picking up a PS2 and a GC in a few weeks -- I've seen some decent deals on the FS/T forum and on eBay..but I have no idea how reliable consoles are -- would we be better off buying the system new and finding used games, or just buying an entire package used?
It depends on the used system and who the previous owner. I used to work at a Gamestop and some systems would be crappy while some others would be almost brand new. The store usually takes most stuff in so they can keep their numbers up to please corporate.
The thing to do is ask to see the best used system they have and if it looks like it's in good shape get it with the store warrenty, which is still cheaper then a brand new system without a warrenty. Perhaps travel around and ask if a system was recently traded in and is in really good shape. Ask the manager as the regular worker won't know what they have.
Agreed. I purchased a used GC off the FS/FT fourms and its running great. I just purchased a new PS2. I purchased a used one from a friend and had all sorts of issues with it and reading newer discs. He told me I had to calibrate it. I was like WTF?!? He failed to mention that before the money exchange. Needless to say he bought it back. 😉
