Buying Chopsticks

The wife and I have been looking for chopsticks locally but we can't find any good quality ones. Anyone know if a nice set can be purchased online? What stores? We're looking for quality.

What kind of chopsticks?...

The japanese ones (they have different sizes too)? The plastic Chinese ones with dragons on them? Wooden ones?...

What kind do you like? Japanese chopsticks tend to be more tapered...my family uses half metal ones and half wooden ones (for noodles and other stuff that'll get too hot).

Once I saw a pair of collapsible chopsticks. OH! I know where it was, it was thinkgeek.com. I was looking for small gifts for my siblings. Collapsible chopsticks must at least be a talking point, even if they're not "good" ones.... 😀

I think those are pretty cool, if they weren't so expensive, I would get them.

I use chopsticks almost everyday. There are so many different types, but I prefer bamboo ones, mainly because they are light and have a texture that makes their grip better than smooth and lacquered ones. I also prefer the shorter, pointier Japanese style that have the more rounded corners that make them better to hold. The shortness makes them easier to control.

Asian Supermarket?

FTW. Bamboo chopsticks > *

If you're skilled at using them metal ones can be better for certain things. Overall the bamboo ones are good though.

My dad almost killed me as a child, when I used several pairs of hand-carved & inlaid ivory chopsticks he brought home from occupied Japan as drumsticks...broke every fvcking pair...(I might have been 7 or 8)

I agree with others... try your local Asian supermarket or something like Chinatown. In Seattle's International District, you can get decent ones in a pack of 10-pairs for less than $2, while custom made ones with images/initials could set you back about $10.

😉
