Hi, I am getting BitDefender but confused on what version to get for. I just want my PC to be free from viruses, spywares and hackers etc.
So kindly suggest which version should I go for ?
I am on Windows 7 now , but will switch to Win 8.1 tomorrow.

And also if you guys recommend Internet or Total Security which has Firewalls , is it necessary to turn OFF Windows Firewall when Firewall from Internet Security is turned ON ?

If you want your PC to be free from malware and you think that buying an Internet security product is going to achieve that, you're going to be disappointed.

As for your other questions - installing another security product that includes a firewall will automatically disable the Windows Firewall.

I'm a little worried that you're thinking of upgrading Windows when the tone of your post suggests that you've been having problems with malware recently. I would ensure that your computer is clean before attempting such an upgrade, unless you would potentially like to spend a fun day picking up the pieces of a borked upgrade.

Yep...check out Mechbgon's security site and make sure you have your system properly locked down: http://www.mechbgon.com/build/security2.html

A lot of that stuff is common sense and I can't use Secure Boot because Truecrypt only works with non UEFI. Plus he mentions to use MSE. LMAO! That's some bad advice there! You might as well not even run anti-virus software FFS.

OP. Bitdefender Free and Sandboxie. Learn it, use it, love it! Scan downloaded files with Virus Total and above all else common sense goes a long way.

Oh! A good firewall is Comodo.

I've been running Bitdefender IS for a few months now on my laptop. Seems decent enough, haven't noticed any slowdown and the scanning speed isn't bad. Can take a while to update for some reason, seems like the updates take longer than other products.

Personally, I use Avast free, Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock, no adobe or java software and sandboxie.
