Buying 'Bare Drives'

Hey gang,

Any thoughts on ordering bare drives off the internet? New egg has some good prices (as do other sites) on bare drives, but I am reluctant to bite since I've never bought one before. Just what exactly do these 'bare drives' lack? Are the kits worh the extra cash?

Huh? what is "OEM"?

For CD & DVD drives, you probably want to get the drives that come with software. Some bare/OEM drives do come with burner software CD, some do not. At newegg.com you can usually tell by looking at the pictures and reading the descriptions.
