EDIT: change of plans, see reply below

EDIT: added reseller info

Here are the details:

$137 + $9 (ship) Athlon XP 1800+ OEM
$16 CoolerMaster DP5-6I31C-A1 CPU cooler
$128 + $5 (ship) Abit KR7A-RAID (Via KT266A chipset)
$102 Crucial RAM PC2100 256MB (registered)

TOTAL: $397

I think it's a good way to spend 400 bucks. Do you? I'm ready to order, just want to double check that I'm not doing the wrong thing here.

The CPU, mobo and cooler are from PriceWatch retailers, memory is from Crucial.

CPU + cooler: from Thompsons Computer Warehouse, Inc. http://www.tcwo.com/ (resellerratings.com score 7.0)
Motherboard: from Next Generation Computers, http://www.nxgenstore.com/ (resellerratings.com score 4.7)

Thanks!

TCWO is a great retailer. Bought several cpu's from them myself. Just make sure you place the order by phone so you get the pricewatch price. Not sure about Next Gen. They list the price for the KR7A-RAID on their site for $159.03. The pricewatch listing might be an error as that is about what the non-RAID version is going for in most places.

the RAM price seems a little high, and personnally I wouldn't get ecc because it will be 5% slower than non-ecc and unless you are using it as a server and are really concerned with error checking it's not worth the extra $.

I wouldn't get the registered RAM... Also, I'd steer clear of coolermaster... That is, if you want your HSF to actually COOL your AMD XP chip...

Thanks for your replies.

Slight change of plans:

I got the Abit KR7A-133RAID motherboard and the Athlon XP 1700+ (retail, w/cooler) from essencompu.com for a total of $309 shipped.
And I got 256mb of PC2100 non ECC RAM from Crucial with the Anandtech discount for $71 shipped.

Now... according to FedEx tracking, both packages are now in Boston, but I will only get them on Monday when I go to work. Oh man, waiting is tough!

id recommend getting all your stuff (minus the ram - get it from crucial) from one place, that way you will save on shipping, even if the stuff costs a little more (ive always been a fan of newegg.com)
also, the cooler master cooler is fine if you dont plan on overclocking, i use one with my athlon 1.33, and it runs it nice and cool at stock speed.

oh yeah, theres no need to get ecc ram, it costs more, isnt any faster (actually, its a bit slower), and is really only necessary if you run big servers, or dual cpu setups. other than that, your system looks good.
