The Intel drives are generally the most expensive, so they're good, but they're not good bang for buck.
The Crucial drives are probably the best bang for buck right now, but they're on the expensive end.
I'm not sure where
Toshiba Samsung drives fall price-wise, but if they're close to Crucial pricing then they'd be a good deal as well.
Anything SandForce based is really good bang for buck right now cause they've been on sale for lower than the price points for Crucial and Intel. You just take a bit of a gamble on stability. The HyperX drives mentioned above are another SandForce drive just like the Vertex 3 and others. The problems with the SandForce drives are with the controller and core firmware, so don't let anyone tell you that VendorA is solid but VendorB is not, when they're both selling SandForce drives.
Kingston has some non-SandForce drives worth looking at in the V+100 series. They're on the lower end for performance, but they're also on the lower end for price.
Limiting the discussion to strictly bang-for-buck:
- If you're looking for a budget drive, I'd suggest the V+100 Kingston drives.
- If you want great performance and reliability look at Crucial.
- If you want to take a bit of a chance on getting a *really* good performing drive for cheaper than a Crucial then buy one of the higher-end SandForce drives (HyperX, Vertex 3), but don't blame anybody else when you have problems with it -- you were warned. If you don't have problems you'll have a screamin' fast SSD, though.
