Buying an air purifier

I am in the process of buying an air purifier (or two) for our house. My wife has extremely bad mold allergies and her allergist suggested that we look into buying one. I have looked up some and they range from 30.00 to 3,000.00 :Q
Has anyone here had any luck with air purifiers they have bought? Also I read that the 'Ionizers' are crap.

Thanks in advance

I know the current issue of Consumer Reports has an article on these... Don't have it on me so I can't tell you the findings, but surely someone here has it?

*note to self... scratch Ionic breeze the fvck off the list.
I don't want to put a cancer producing machine in my house, thank you very much.

We have a couple Living Air 880's. They are seldomly turned on. They definately clear any kinds of smells from the house, but they don't do dick for the dust situation. I'd like to have a couple big stand-alone hepa filters, but rely on the one in my furnace (which also doesn't do dick).
As was mentioned, I have some reluctance to run any sort of ozone machine all the time. It can't be good for you.
I do get a lot of use out of my air cleaners by destinking my car with it occasionally. I also take them to houses or apartments we own to destink them. They really do the job.

This is mostly for my wife who has really bad allergies to mold, and also has asthma. Plus it can't hurt to have cleaner air in the house.

Whatever you go for, check out the pricing and availability of replacement filters.
We have a couple of units in our house and one of them I can't find replacement filters for at all. The other one is a small one from Walmart. The unit with a filter goes for somehwere around $40 - the replacement filters are 2/$35.

I personally like Ionic Breeze.. It might not clean the air quickly, but it does pickup very fine dust and odor.
I don't believe that it cause cancer, it omits ozone, which destroys the ozone layer of earth, but it smell clean.

Hehe, the sensationalized dangers over Ozone are funny. I have an Air Purifier that putss out ten times as much ozone as the Ionic Breeze. O3 breaks down quickly.
