Looking at buying either a CCSB or Ext cab SB Silverado 2500HD. Current one I'm looking at has 100k on the motor, and looking at the maintenance timelines it looks like it should be due for a number of oil changes as well as filter changes. Outside of that, is there anything else to look for in these motors? Feel like the 100k mile mark is just breaking in these motors. He has a lift on it and is rolling on 37s, has an EFI tune on it to program the transmission and speed for the larger tires.

The had some injector issues so look into that. That is the big one that jumps out. Other than that they seem to be good motors.

use some common sense when looking at a truck with a tuner on it. The seller may say it was for recalibration for tires, but EFI Live can turn these engines way up. It may have a lot of pulls on it which is not necessarily bad, but might mean it has been hammered on a great deal too.

The injector issues were with the 01-04 trucks... Not the ones with the external injectors... I know I have a 2004.5 which is an LLY and have been very pleased with it... Bought it with 95,000 miles on it and just turned 170,000... I blew a head gasket at 104,000 miles and did the job myself and have hammered on it ever since...

But the trucks that everyone wants are the late 2005 through the early 2007 LBZ's... Just cannot go wrong with a Duramax IMPO...:p

I've heard of the random injector failure on the LBZs, but nothing consistant. Indeed they are the highest demanded diesel, it's too bad GMC could only put them in trucks for 1.5 years. The new ones just aren't as buildable or reliable as the LBZs were, probably due to new emissions shit. Too many electronics, additives, and other crap with the new ones.
