Buying AMD + DDR

I want to buy a new system and will get an Athlon with AMD 760 chipset (MSI K7 Master). I want Win2K, but I heard of some incompatibilities between the 761 northbridge and the Via 686B southbridge when running Win2000.

Since I've only had Intel systems before, I'm a little "worried" about that...(yep, a brand name really IS something :)...

Anyway, are there really some problems or am I just getting influenced by an ignorant saleman? (I'm not going to use a SBLive!)

My Kt133e has a Via 686B chip on it, and I have no problems. Epox issued a bios update and fixed the problem so I am sure the newer DDR boards come fixed already.

Stay away from netgearfa311 and you will be fine, AMD has come a long way, try them out.

there are no problems between the 761 and the 686B, only between the 761MP and the 616B...
the 686B has problems with sounblasters tho ...

No problems at all. Just stay away from Netgear NICS like Tunaboo mentioned. The latest Via 4 in 1's adress the SB Live! issue anyway, so you could use a SB Live! if you wanted.

I'm actually back from work (had a small night)
Normally, I'd still be at work tough
