Buying airline ticket for child on Orbitz? How?

I've got my answer: It is "You can't" Now I know.

My son is 12. I'm trying to buy a ticket for him on Orbitz, but it won't let me search for a ticket JUST for him. It makes you search for the child ticket PLUS at least 1 adult ticket.

He'll be flying by himself; how do I accomplish this? Do I have to book w/an airline directly for a "child flying alone" ticket?

Thanks.

Sorry you're pretty much out of luck with any OTA (Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Hotwire) with a child that young. Some will allow 15-18 without an adult ticket. There's no point even calling them since they're restricted by the airlines.

I believe you'll also have difficulty booking with some airlines due to the risk.

see a travel agent? my mother had done that by sending my brother and i to south korea twice in our early 10s.

Thanks, dawheat and Juno. Over lunch I spoke with a few coworkers about this and they pretty much told me the same thing. I've got some work to do I guess. *shrug* At least now I know.
