Buying a used iPhone. Things to check so I won't get scammed?

I currently have a 16gb 3GS. I'm thinking of getting a 32GB version from craigslist. What are things I need to check so I won't be scammed (stolen...ect)?

Bring a paper clip, pop out your sim card and put it in the one you intend to buy, make a phone call & see if it works...

You can also bring a pen light to see if the water sensor has been triggered.

There are 4 of them. 1 in the headphone jack, 1 behind the upper right portion of the screen, 1 in the lower left portion of the screen and the best one is in the jack on the bottom. You can see the ones in the headphone jack and the bottom jack.
