buying a TV- questions

Hello everyone,

I'm buying a TV to replace my 10 year old sony trinitron and am looking at two models at the moment. I will probably end up at best buy since I can get a warranty and easy return there. Here are the models I'm looking at:

JVC AV-27F702 27" I'Art TV

Panasonic CT-27SX11 27" Tau? SX Series TV

I'm limited to the cost of these sets, around $550. I'm going to hook up my VCR to the Component input and my Computer to the S-Video. I've decided not to wait for HD sets to come down in price. Later, when I have more money and the HD is more common I'll give in and retire this set out the bedroom...

My questions are as follows:
- Are these good brands?
- Are there models/brands with better picture or more options for the same price?
- These sets list 2-3 sets of composite inputs. I only use s-video and component at the moment (maybe I have these mixed up). What uses composite these days?
- These sets don't list sub-title display or Coax input. Would it be a given that these are included and not worth mentioning?

Most video equipment, these are the RCA (yellow, red b/w) you may be confusing composite(common, low end) with component (less common, high end). s-video is the 4 pin connector (only carries video signal, you need to use the audio L/R (composite rca) also for sound.

Those TV will also have coax and sub titling I'm sure.

Those are nice brands, Sony WEGA 27" should be ballpark also. Plug 'em into Google and read the reviews.
 
Well, I broke down and bought the Samsung 27" DynaFlat HDTV Monitor. It was $900 + $300 for the 4 year warrantee and $45 for some cables. That's a lot more than I started out to spend, but with the Best Buy card I have "same as cash for 18 months."

I think I'm going to like this. I just have to buy a progressive scan DVD player...
 
I have a Hitachi Ultravision 32". It isn't a flat screen but the picture is top notch and it has all the features (800 lines res., inputs etc.) that you would want.
The bigger size is perfect for most rooms.

You should be able to get it for about the same price as the conventional (non HDTV) 27" flat screens...

Also I saw Samsung's new flat screen and it was priced lower than the other manufacturer's flat screens...
