Has anyone had any experience with purchasing plasmas from newegg?

They have the best price I've been able to find (comparing against B&M stores) but I'm uncomfortable with having a plasma shipped.

Should I be worried that their shipping company might not handle with care, which might make the TV not last as long?

No you shouldn't be worried. How do you think it gets to a retail store? Just make sure to inspect it before they leave.

My friend got a 42" lcd from newegg and it came with no problems at all. I'd rate the shipping company hire than UPS when it comes to handling, then again that doesn't take much.

The only potential downside to buying big-ticket items on the internet is maybe getting stuck paying shipping if you need to return it ... with Newegg I'd say its worth going for it.

One major concern when buying a TV from any of the big on-line retailers is that you will have to deal direct with the manufacturer if you have any problems with the TV. Some manufacturers have special programs to handle this (ex. Panasonic's Concierge Service) but many do not.
Conveniently, Newegg has the 42" Panasonic TH-42PZ700U plasma on sale for the best price I've seen (incl. shipping). You might wanna take a look at it ... only plasma I like better is the Pioneer Kuro which I ended up buying instead.

They sent me two TV's when I purchased one (LCD). I had to contact them three times to pick up the extra!

I bought a Panny 42in EDTV from them about 2 1/2 years ago. The purchase obviously went fine, but I did not like the shipper they used (AIT). The tv got to Baltimore where the delivery was subbed out to a local company. The tv sat in this company's warehouse for 2 days while AIT Corporate struggled to get me a phone number of the company that had my tv. When I called them they told me they were waiting for me to call them to schedule delivery.

I would use Newegg obviously but personally I would avoid AIT if they still use them for bulk deliveries.
