Buying a system now or later - wait for Windows Vista Longhorn?

Should one delibrately wait 6 months until Vista comes out, so that when you buy a system then it will have it preloaded instead of XP?


It would be a laptop. Does that change your answer?

Meaning - is it worth the wait..?

In my PC World magazine, it said "recommended specs" for Vista were:

[*]64-bit CPU
[*]2 GB memory
[*]Video card with 128 MB of RAM
[*]SATA hard disk
[*]Monitor with HDCP support (if you play select high def videos)

But I'm not buying that (no pun intended). I'm pretty sure they have a 32-bit version coming out. That's just "recommended", so don't think you need those specs, I'm pretty sure you don't.

I take it you'd buy a Dell instead of build it yourself? If you mean would I buy XP now even though Vista is coming soon? It depends if you want to use a new PC till then. Otherwise I would wait. However release dates are never final, and where did you hear it was coming out in 6 months? I haven't been following it lately but all I see is more delays on Google News.

If you need one now, buy it. If, for some reason, Vista won't work on it, don't buy Vista until some other time.

At this moment, Windows Vista looks like crap, however, if you still want it. I would still buy a system now if you need one now. And upgrade for it if you need to upgrade when it is released.

vista isn't going to be out until a year from now... 6 months would be nice but that is not what I hear. There was some leaked memo that stated Q4 2006. Heck, i wouldn't be that surprised if it was Q1 07...

It doesnt look to bad. As for those system specs, i ran a early alpha release on ony P3 450 with 320MB of ram and a 10gb hdd, its not advisable to say the least but it ran. Also there will be 32 and 64 bit versions of it I think you will find.
