buying this today, is on sale for $1,599.99. sold my old tv for $500, so im actually paying $1100+ tax out of my own pocket for it. for all you TV guru's, would you suggest something else thats within the same price range? ive crossed out plasma because i dont ever want to deal with burn in, ever. lcd tv's are nice, but they cost so much! i want a tv thats at least 42-50", anyone else recommend something similar in price that may contend with the sony 3lcd 50"?

i walked through best buy, and the sony wega 3lcd rear projection looks damn good. its almost as good as plasma if you ask me. its def better then the dlp's within the same price range.

Sony KDS-50A2000 50" 1080P SXRD HDTV

A few hundred more but you get true 1080p over HDMI and SXRD technology for better picture quality. I have the previous gen SXRD and it's been nothing short of excellent. Once calibrated the picture was awesome. Has the blackest blacks behind plasmas and crts.

I got this 42" Westinghouse LCD for $1500 back in June...it's slightly more expensive now, but still within your price range. It's been great for the past 3 months, and the HD quality is pretty damn good. 1080p and no burn in to boot!

Im looking at this TV here Text

Its $1200 shipped. I went to bestbuy, and they had the 42inch model, but still it looked good. I thought it looked better than the Sony 46inch DLP it had right next to it.

How much did you pay to get it calibrated? Or was it some type of software you used yourself?

Have the 60" of the same series, the HD is quite spectacular but the regular is just bad unless you put the Wide mode onto Normal to correct the aspect ratio.
Then again I suppose that's a problem with most HDTVs.

I've got a 42" Panasonic plasma, no burn-in worries. All the myths of burnin are not true with somewhat new plasmas.

I netflix'ed 2 calibration dvds and then did the calibration myself. The dvds also had test tones to properly setup the audio section too.

If by "a few", you mean 9 or 10.

The SXRD's are nice, but they aren't in the same price range.

We just bought the 50E2000 a few weeks ago and we're very happy with it. Yeah, SD tv looks crappy, but that's going to be true with every HDTV. We sit about 10 ft away and are very happy with the picture.

I also have a 42" Panasonic plasma and have never seen even a trace of burn in. And this is after hours of xbox 360 playing. The prices have gone down too. $1700 for the newer version of the TV I paid $2700 for less than a year ago. I've seen it cheaper than that also. I say go plasma!

it's a great TV. my friend has the same one. I personally would recommend a Samsung DLP of their current generation. I just think DLP in general looks crisper than LCD. Also, you've seen these in stores probably. The displays in stores won't look nearly as good as when you see it at someone's home. The ones in stores are on for like 12 hours straight a day and setup by idiots.

I have an older 50" Samsung DLP, my friend has the same TV you are looking at, and my bro just got a current gen 61" Samsung 1080p, and they are all great TV's. you won't be disappointed regardless. My personal preference is just DLP though. Enjoy your new tv!

i wouldnt go with it. i have the 42" grand wega and regret buying it. its got a nice picture but totaly sucks to use as a computer monitor and it dont even got 1080p. Go with a westinghouse they seem pretty nice. just make sure its 1080p and has a high resolution.

Welp, I bought the 50" Sony, and I couldnt be happier. I still think it looks better than the Samsung DLP's. I saw them in the store, I saw them in my friends houses, and I still like the Sony LCD projection better. Looks a tiny bit clearer to me, so thats why I went with it.

I look my tv, my 34" Toshiba Widescreen hdtv looked like a micro machine next to it.

Congratulations on your new TV, they're awesome aren't they?

Personally I wouldn't have purchased an LCD RP I would have gone LCoS or DLP instead.

The JVC 52" HD-ILA is a sweet TV.

As usual, RossMAN knows what's up. To each his own of course, but w/o getting into details or my past, LCDs have seldom impressed me compared to the other available technologies.

Affordable, definitely.
