I've been looking the segways lately and starting to want one. I'm starting to see a few of these in my city almost everyday. Would you buy one if you could? I think they run for around 5k.

Do you think overtime these will start to become a way of walking?

For US$5K, absolutely not. Even at $500 you'd have a tough time convincing me to use that rather than grab a cheap road bike.

I'm waiting for Medicare to start paying for them like they pay for those old folk scooters...

my company bought one to study the motor control, so i've taken it for a spin a few times. it's cool, but 5K is crazy.

and no, i wouldn't buy one. it's not like you can chain it up outside once you get to your destination. where are you going to put it?

It would be pretty easy to steal one. The people in my town that have them are all fat. You could speed away at 12 mph and they would never be able to catch you.

Tries to imagine a 'high-speed' Segway chase.

Seriously, some TV show needs to do a spoof like that.

My uncle has two of them... uses them for realty as a gimmick (handing out flyers and such, door-to-door for real estate). I get to ride 'em about once a month... they're fun, but they don't really warrant the price.

If this becomes the new 'walking' then expect the obesity levels to rise even more. Hell, they'll have to redesign the damn thing to hold on to all of the 800 pounders it is sure to create.

I'm pretty sure Gob on Arrested Development has been chased by the cops on his Segway at least once.
