Obviously I just need a cheap 2nd car with no frills and the Saturn has everthing I want and the only thing extra is A/C and I don't want to spend alot of money. I just don't see other cars in this price range. and I want to make sure it's built in north america.

what do you need commments about?

saturns are a good working car... they do their job

they aren't the most "sporty" or "luxurious" but the get you from point a to b

I had on I bought in 94 and had close to 150000 miles on it. I would still have it if this chick in her SUV had paid attention to the road instead of her cell phone. Anyway, I it was a great car and never had a day of trouble with it.

Don't buy a Saturn, they are for peope that like bland looking things and old people. Buy a Honda Civic or something, get better gas mileage and more reliability.

Actually, the new Toyota Matrix or even the new Corolla look pretty hip, I would check those two out.

As basic transportation, the Saturn will do fine. They have been fairly reliable, though unrefined. A Saturn will be buzzier and noiser than a Honda or Toyota, but it will still get the job done without a lot of fuss.

Did a little research because I got sick of this stereotype...
Review that shows that 57% of Saturn buyers are male... Link

Yeah, because everybody has the same taste as you and should only look at Toyotas and Hondas.

I know a few people that are very happy with their Saturns and wouldn't trade them in for anything (including a Honda Civic, which has about as much character as a DaeWoo, IMHO).

PS. I don't particular like Saturns either, but only because I don't like the whole economy car appearance.

I owned a 96 Saturn... was a good car. No complaints.

BTW, Saturn was a joint venture between Toyota and GM. Under the hood most of the parts are of Toyota origin. So reliabilty is pretty safe with them.

I'm sure that way more than 50% of cars bought are bought by men. I would guess that in the average couple normally the man is the one who puts his name on it. Anyway who's to say these guys aren't buying for their wives?

Wrong, you're confusing Saturn with the Geo Prism (aka Toyota Corolla);)

Exactly, most of the Saturn drivers I see are 16 - 21 year old women and they mostly drive SC2's. Daddy bought it of course ;)

Uhhmmm...no. Saturn was a home brewed GM thing. Initially they copied a lot of Toyota's management style and applied it in their Spring Hill manufacturing plant. That was back in the early nineties. In the mid-late 90's, the UAW changed the labor contract at Spring Hill to a more traditoinal labor contract. Morals at Spring Hill is at its low right now. Saturn internals are NOT from Toyota parts. Nothing of it is. Everything from the 1.9L engine, to the space frame design, and to the polymer panels are not from Toyota. The original 3 spoke steering wheel of hte 1991-1992 came from a Pontiac. You might be mistaken the Toyota thing for the Geo/Chevy Prizm or Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe.

My wife drives a 2000 Saturn L. Initially we were looking at the S model. But the 2000 redo of the S series can be said in one word. CHEAP! The early S series got my respect. Up until the 1999 model year. The S series have a long history of oil burning. Some have this problem, some down. The Saturn L we have is buggy as hell. Granted it is a first year model, but buying a new car and taking it to the dealer for service every 2 months for a whole day is a big pain in the ass.. I drive an Accord, the Saturn L's competitor. I can say the Accord is a much better built car than the Saturn L. I wouldn't recommend the Saturn SL, because you can get either a better built Japanese or Ford Focus, or a better value with the Hyundai Elantra GT.

A very valid point. Oh well, when the car buffs start up with this stuff, I usually just say that my 2002 SC2 just shows that I'm secure in my manhood.

[RANT]I never understood why someone would knock a car for being something that girls like. Where's the logic in that? I mean, isn't that why some guys get powerful/sleek cars? To get girls? If so, then why would you want anything more than a cheap car that girls are so proven to like? If you just want to drive a more powerful car for the sole reason of power... well, an enlargement surgery would be cheaper.[/RANT]

I didn't buy my Saturn to get girls or any of that crap, she just happens to like it. I'm not a member of the Saturn cult or anything else. I agree their commercials are dumb. But the bias against the company is quite a phenomenon that I've never understood.

I own a '97 Saturn SC2 and I do have some complaints. It seems like every time I take this car in for an oil change, something else is going wrong with it. The most recent oil change they say I've got over $1000 in repair that needs to be done. I HATE SATURN. If I could get rid of this car I would, and I'd buy a Honda. If you want it, I'll sell it to you for $7,500... :D Seriously, PM me :)

Get a Civic DX instead. You don't even need to pay full sticker for the privilege. There, that's my comment.

Most are made in Ohio.

Post the options you have on the Saturn and the price.

I would go for a Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, or a Civic LX (all made in the USA).

Ummm.. I think you are wrong. Just like Ford is in bed with Mazda, and Dodge with Mitsubishi. I know that many of the parts under the hood of the Saturn that I owned were Toyota parts (only part #'s were changed to protect the innocent). You are correct that Geo was a Toyota/GM thing as well.

Read KamakaziRcr's post up above. Saturn is all GM.

>but the get you from point a to b

that's just it, I just need it form a to b and as a second car.

and as for Honda or Corolla's of course I know they have better quality but no matter how I sliced and diced it the final price tag is always $4000 Cdn. more than Saturn's and they just wont budge on the price. Honda Canada's best offer is %5.9 compared to Saturn for %1.9 that's a $50/month diff at least.

thanks for all your comments.

Civic starts at $14,800 CAN I think - saturns can't possibly start at $11k, or is this after various options?

Don't forget that the saturn will have ass-reamingly bad retail compared to the Honda (which have retardly good retail). You can pay for it now or down the line!
