I'm looking for a pool table for a basement. 8', ball return or pockets. I've been looking at Brunswick, any other makers that I should look at?

Olhausen Billiards pool tables are probably the best pool tables around. I had one for about 7 years and loved it.

From what I saw, around $1900 to $2700. The one I'm looking at runs around $3500.

They can be as cheap as $1200 and as expensive as $20,000+

Tried to use the dealer finder at Olhausen Billiards.com and first you have to enter your personal info and second "The page cannot be displayed". Wonderful system they have.

i bought one a while ago from a garage sale. probably less than 100 bucks. granted, the felt was pretty bad and it was majorly slanted. Still fun to play though.

But I suggest you stay away from those kinds

Just make sure it fits in the room. Sucks playing at a friends when you have to hold the cue almost vertical because the table is too close to the walls. *sigh*.

The room is plenty big, I made sure of that. We can use the longest cues and still be fine. The bed will be slate, no question. I think brunswick uses 1 inch slate.

Otherwise, buy what you like.

Exactly. If money is any concern get a used slate table for cheap and then pay 150.00 or so to re-felt it.

Since you live in Maryland, you could try the following: Champion Billiards

Here in No. VA, we have a billiards parlor called "Fast Eddies." They used to sell T-shirts that said: "I rack my balls at Fast Eddies" on them. :)

Tiles2Tech, thanks for the tip. Never got a chance to go by there but I will since they carry the Olhausen tables.

Check your local classified ads. Seriously I wouldnt buy a new pool table unless I was desperate... So many people with good tables are always selling em for cheap! Theres really no diff b/t a new one and a gently used one.

Good question, price range for a decent used one?

yeah if anyone can provide input. stuff like, if certain designs are better than others (stronger support, last longer, stays balanced longer, doesn't warp easily, etc), if certain tables are easier to repair (like cloth getting ripped or stained), or anything info that would help a consumer along these lines.

are there certain tests that help determine quality of table, especially when buying used? (like with cues, you roll it to see how even it is)
