Well, if gas milage isnt an issue, I recommend getting an early 90's Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 v-6. It's got great power and those engines are very reliable.

I'd go for a mid-90's crown vic or grand marquis.

Maybe a town car if I could find one with really low mileage.

Do I already have a car? Is it something I can rely on for a few years without major maintenence?

Will this be a daily driver or just something for fun? How long before I can change?

My 89 5.0l mustang coupe is the most expensive car I have bought at $3500
My beater/sleeper 89 dodge caravan 2.5l turbo was $800

my old cars rank from latest to oldest
93 nissan 2.4l truck = $3k worst money I ever spent. Truck wasn't bad but I only got $2200 a year and a half later
81 plymouth horizan = $0 free lady was going to junk it. Rebuilt carb and put new tires on it and drove it for over a year as a beater
67 ford galaxie 390 big block baby = $1200 had that one for 5 years
85 plymouth duster(same as a dodge charger) 2.2l = $1k
81 dodge mirada /6 the indestructible = $600 first car

$3k buys a lot of car.

I don't see much point in spending more then that for a car just to drive around in. Now if it is something special thats different.

Yeah that is nice but both my current vehicles have working a/c even the $800 van. Actually my van is the most loaded vehicle I have ever owned :). Most of the other cars I listed even the $0 horizan "had" a/c but none of them worked. Most probably would have if I had just had the system recharged, I had to do to both of the ones I have now, but I had more important things to spend $100 in the past.

The best Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Subaru I could find.

Surprisingly, you can find pretty decent A-B cars for 3k.

~2 months ago I picked up a 1995 Subaru Impreza L AWD sedan (special edition) for $2600.

It's been great thus far.

Yep. My daily beater is a 87 Buick LeSabre with a series1 3.8L with 150K and still goign strong. I get 25mpg right now.

A lot of other cars came with the 3.8L so look for that.
