Buying a new TV...

so as the title states im looking for a new TV. I dont know too much about TV technologies besides what ive been reading up on for the past 2 days. Sofar it seems plasma would be the way to go for a 42" sized TV which is what im looking at in terms of size. These are 2 models ive been looking at Panasonic 1 and Panasonic 2 .

I know there are also LCD TVs. I get confused a bit thought because people keep referring to TVs as HDTVs as if they are actually a type of TV along side Plasma or LCD.(im gonna assume they are wrong until someone tells me otherwise). And ive also read a bit about DLP TVs.

Any advice any of you have would be great also i dont mind reading so you could link to some good sources for info like this that woulc be great.
