well, my trusty pentium II is still going strong, but I gotta say, I'm getting "the itch" something bad lately!!

I do quite a bit of 3D & graphics work, but I want a killer gaming system as well. I can compromise to get a great gaming setup; I don't need a quadro/wildcat etc for home

I'm thinking of:

Asus A8N-SLI board, but running a single card for now
AMD cpu, upgrading to a dual core in the fall...
at least 2 gigs of ram

dillemma:

I'm unsure whether to get a single 6800 ultra, or just a 6600GT graphics card for now....until the next generation of cards come out, & then get a pair of whatever is out then?

been some reading through the forums & people are saying there are new generations of cards coming out soon; not advising to sink $$ into them at the moment.

alternately, I could get a 6800 now, and then pick another up for cheap once the new cards are out?

same goes for the CPU, should I bother getting a high end cpu if I'm upgrading in a few months?

(or maybe I should wait until fall & just get everything at once? I'm going nuts not being able to play some of the more recent games ( ie: FLATOUT ) )

fwiw I also will be doing a lot of multitrack audio recording/editing

any advice appreciated, thx!
