I have a 4k tv which ive talked about in different threads(the pros and cons for me) and i want to add a home stereo system to it. All video and audio will be sourced from my computer. I dont even have cable tv just watch things on the internet and so on. So if the computer is handling the 4k content or currently handling the upscaling to 4k content do i need a receiver that can handle 4k?

Yes otherwise you can bypass the receiver and send video directly to your TV but then every time you want to go into the on screen menu on your receiver you have to change input.
