Ey guys,

Please help me out. I need to buy a new mid-end pc for gaming and programming. My problem is I don't know much about hardwares and I want to make sure I?m buying the right stuff at a reasonable price.

I've come up with a list of choices based on research and I need some comments and suggestions to help me make up my mind. My budget is around $1100

CPU:
- Athlon64 3000+ s939 *1st choice
- Athlon64 3200+ s939

MOBO:
Budget is less than $170. Preferrably Nforce4 Ultra. I want a mobo that wont give me a hard tym.
- EPoX EP-9NPA3 ULTRA (It's cheap! but no firewire. Is there a way I can have one?) *1st
- EP-9npa+ Ultra (Some say the usb has problems and the board's design is bad)
- DFI LP UT NF4 Ultra-D (All the features I'm looking for is here except for the "Dual Xpress Graphics" and I'm not an OC'er)
- EP-9npa+ SLI[ (dont need to go sli but it has the features and I dont have any bad feedback on this one yet. It's also not pricey)
- Other Choices: DFI LP UT nF4 SLI-D, A8N SLI PREMIUM, A8N-E

VC:
- xfx 6880 GS XXX Edition
- HIS X800GTO IceQ II Turbo
- eVGA / XFX 7800GT *1st

MEM:
Don't have much idea on the timings but it says that the lower is better.
- OCZ Gold GX 1GB (2 x 512MB) 2-2-2-5 *1st
- CORSAIR XMS (2 x 512) 2-3-3-6. (Cheap!)
- OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) Platinum 2-3-2-5

PSU:
A Not Sli ready, good but cheap PSU would do. Maybe <= 500W? Can anyone tell me what the pins and connectors all about.
- 450w Task Dual Fan (Don't know if this is good but it's very cheap. PLS CHECK IT OUT) *1st
- Antec True Power 2 550 SLI ATX 2.01 550W (Just to be sure)

CASING:
I like the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Tower Series because of its lightweight and has good airflow. It's hot in our place that?s why I need this kind of cooling factor.

HDD:
- WD 250GB 16MB cache SATA-II

Please help me choose what to buy for my new PC. I would really appreciate your suggestions. THANKS.

cpu: get the opteron 146 or amd 3700+ ($220)
mobo: go with your 1st choice if the only thing you need is firewire. go to fry's and buy 3 for $15.
vga: 7800GT ($300)
HDD: perfect choice($120)
RAM: go with the 2x1gig kit. you need 2 gigs. why not value ram ($160-200 should be what you spend)
PSU: fortron 450W ($50)
Case: perference really. go with yours. (i'll but $100 just to be safe)
this'll get you at the $1100 mark. you can obviously cut back on the cpu cause your original was $50 cheaper...ram can be value ram. looks good. really looks like your researched

The Corsair and Geil won't overclock very well.. of the two, Corsair has the lower timings. The G.Skill will most likely overclock better (230-240Mhz) but it depends on which kit you have priced out. $160 for 2Gb of Corsair is hard to beat.

My recommendation:

A64 3200+ - $160
2gb basic mushkin/crucial/corsair/geil/ocz ram (faster ram useless unless overclocking heavily) - $165ish
msi neo4-f mb - $85 (built 3 systems with this mb now, flawless everytime - oldest is now 4 months and going strong).
7800gt - $275
fsp group 500w - $70
74gb raptor hdd - $155
Antec case - $100 ($150 if you want the shiny P series)
total here - $1010

What else do you need man? Monitor/kb/mouse? You can reduce price here, obviously, by choosing regular sata over raptor and getting an antec case for under $100 with ps built in. $50 can be saved going from 7800gt to 6800gs oc too. You could afford a x1900xt if you drop to a sata and the antec case w/ps.
