MOBO $164 - Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 ATX LGA775 Conroe P965 DDR2 PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 GBLAN Audio Motherboard

RAM $180 - Corsair Value Select PC2-5300 2X1GB DDR2-667 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

GPU $200 - EVGA E-GEFORCE 7900 GS KO 500MHZ 256MB 256BIT 1.38GHZ GDDR3 Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card

Planned OC 1.8ghz to 3ghz w/ 333fsb running at 667 with a 1:1 ratio

Should I go with this ram and just downclock it to ddr667 so that when I upgrade to a better cpu I then can just clock it back to 800 if/when I get a cpu that can run a 400fsb 1:1?

$249 ($213AR) - OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit

wow that is a nice price for that ram.. I havent heard much of G.Skill ram though. I do al l my shopping with NCIX b/c there the only cdn company that has good prices and they are within a 40 minute drive.

My worries is with going with ddr800 downclocking it too 667 will decrease the preformance on the timings.

btw am I right on the 1:1 ratio.. some ppl saying its 2:1 ratio.

I will those keep an eye out on that ram and do some reading.

Thanks for advice!

It'll downclock automatically (they all do unless you're specifically overclocking or manually changing the ratio), but when it does that you can experiment with tightening the timings a little.

2:1 and 1:1 are both commonly used when people are talking about the same thing; DDR2 rated as 533Mhz running in "2:1" with a 266Mhz FSB is the same as saying it's running in 1:1 because the actual speed of the DDR2 will be 266Mhz, but it's effectively doubled (hence DDR2) because it can send twice when DDR only sends once.

ncix.com has those same sticks (2gbnq). Their timings for 266 are 4-4-4-10 (SPD).
$170 - G.Skill 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ
