I need help choosing a good 22" monitor for gaming/movies.

Some main points:

1)My budget only allows me to go up to a max of $320 shipped.
2)A "good looking" monitor would be nice, but I always prefer the actual quality over cosmetics.
3)I'm planning to use this for at least the next 3-4 years, so I need the best I can get for my money.
4)I prefer that the monitor stand allows to lower the screen as close as possible to the surface of the table. My ViewSonic can do this, and because of it I can fit it allowing only an 18" clearance when the monitor is 17". Off course this is NOT required, since my table can be modified to accommodate any monitor size.
5)MUST have 1:1 scaling feature or equivalent.

I was looking at the 22" LG recommended here on Anandtech, but it's pretty expencive at $310, and I want to explore other options before I buy it.

I see several new ASUS monitors on newegg right now, at a very nice low introductory price. They seem to have all the latest bells and whistles, and the reviews are mostly good. But how good are these monitors? Can anyone shed some light on this? I like how they have an HDMI port - it's not really required for me, since I don't really plan to use my monitor as a TV, but if I can have an HDMI port, I want to have one off course. If I cant, I am willing to sacrifice that option to have a better monitor.

Also, what's up with this new term "ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio"? (ASCR) For example it says that the CR is 1000:1 when ASCR is 12000:1...

I just got a L227WTG a week or so ago. Was able to get it on sale at Best Buy for $260'something including tax. So you might check around and see if you can get one locally. Overall I am very happy with it. Its great for gaming. This is the first TN panel I have purchased and it did take some time to get used to the horrible vertical viewing angle compared to the PVA and IPS panels I am used to.

Its really hard to beat in its price range though. The other main ones I looked at were the Samsung 2253BW and T220. Those get really nice reviews as well and Newegg has them both under $250 right now with MIR.

Since you have this monitor, can you please check for me if it can scale 1:1?

I always run at native so I never thought to check. By default it does not. I went through all the OSD options and the options in the forte manager (included software that allows you to change settings) and could not find any option to stop it from filling. I am able to do 1:1 by using my NVidia control panel though.

So on its own I was unable to find a way to get the monitor to do 1:1. NVidia (and I would imagine ATI as well) drivers will let you though.
