I have a Mag Innovision 15" LCD monitor that I bought a couple of years ago when I knew nothing about LCD screens, now theres so much to buying a good LCD screen I'm confused. I'm looking for an 18" LCD but all the Monitors I looked at through Dells site only have 25ms or not listed response times. Is 25ms good enough for watching DVD's and Playing games on? I read a lot about 16ms is the best but I haven't seen too many with that low of a response time. I'm looking for a monitor under 600 that has a good response time and DVI inputs. one more thing. Anyone know the response time on the Dell Ultra Sharp 1800FP?

The only 16ms panels are 17" right now. I don't know if you would really notice the difference between a 17" and an 18" size wize. I have the Viewsonic VP171B 17" and the specs of this monitor are much better than their 18" model in the same line. I have found no ghosting with my monitor but I don't know how much difference there would be on a 25ms 18".

I have a VP171B, it rocks game performance is smooth like a CRT with no artifacts (ghosting, etc.). It is very sizeable to my eyes (I came from a 17" CRT) so if you came from something larger you might be a little dissapointed but otherwise I think it was well worth the $499 from www.newegg.com.

Sorry, cant tell you anything about DVD playback because I dont have a DVD drive.

When I first pulled it out of the box it was slightly ghosting but that went away withing a day or so. Perhaps it just needed to break in, so if you buy one give it a chance!

Happy buying!

EDIT: Oh and it does have 1 DVI and 2 DB15 input if you need them.

Generally response times of 25ms or less are sufficient for DVD playback and games. You may see very light ghosting when the frames are really high, but only if you happen too look for it. As for the response time for the Dell 1800fp, I believe it is 30ms. I personally have one myself, and am satisified with its DVD playback. Even playing UT2003, there really isn't much ghosting to the point it detracts from the game.
