Buying a laptop for gaming  That X1700 is already outdated.

You're better off spending $600 on a gaming PC and $700 on a nice laptop for school (even the $400 Sunday Special laptops are more than enough for school work).

You can build a PC with an X1950GT for dirt cheap right now.

i got the same laptop, except only the T5500 cpu and 80gig hdd.

games run alright, the performance of the card is somewhere from 6600gt to 6800ultra depending on the game. (memory is slow ddr2 so some games run worse than they should), 2 gig would help a lot if ur planing to play lots of games.

battery life is ok, i get 3+ hours out of it just using net and word and stuff, thats with the gfx card in low performance mode in powerplay... playing games on battery at high performance mode u might get 40 min out of it lol... i undervolted my cpu to 0.95 volts so that proly helps battery life somewhat, and especially the temps, the cooling is not that great, my cpu was reaching 80C, now it only gets to 69 max.

At this price i havent seen anything with better specs. (especially with same performance gfx card)

i was talking about the graphics ram, its ddr2 clocked at 400mhz (or 12.3 GB/s), the laptop itself has 1 gig ddr667, the way i said it before makes it seem like its the main memory... but 2 gig will make a big difference if you play games, especially new ones. I play bf2142 on it and get lots of loading lag (when get on a new map, area etc cause the game uses up a gig of ram by itself)

wait till you get it before buying the ram, i think some models do come with 1gig stick instead of 2 * 512.
