Looks like I am going to be traveling a lot so I am gonna need a good machine to work on. I am looking to spend around 2000 on the machine. Right now the sony vaios look nice. I could really use the big screen. Anyone recently make a purchase they are happy with? Let me know, I don't really trust reviews of other people I have seen. "Doesn't look like windows 98" is not a good review 🙂 (Yes, I have seen a review like that sadly enough.) Ok, shoot!

hi 🙂

i just made one... and i am waiting for the delivery as i type...

i ordered one from fujitsu direct from their webpage www.fujitsu.com (sorry it's not linked too lazy)

from reading all the reviews on anand, i wanted to make sure i got a centrino processor and 512 megs of ram and a 15.1 in display... and weighed under 7 pounds...

the one i put together only cost 1449 after 50 dollar instant online coupon and 1571 with shipping and tax...

if i had more money, i would have looked into the ibm thinkpads T series... they are only 1 inch thick and weigh around 5 pounds...

battery life is REALLY good with these new centrino processors...

i researched for abotu 2 weeks before i finally made an order... keep looking...

i think you need to first have in mind what you want before you start ordering 🙂

I want to have a large screen, DVD burner, long battery life, built in wireless. I am gonna go check out those t-series...

me personally, really had good experiences with the 600m series (centrino) from dell. id check the hot deals forum for good discounts from dell, you may come away with a good system for cheap.

I traveled alot as a field service engineer for a company. I can tell you some pointers that you should go off of.
Wireless is good if you go home or to a coffee shop that has it aka starbucks... so treat that with some value...
Processor power is good for dvds so if you are watching alot then good use it but if not you dont need anything outrageous...
Memory is a must. The more the merrier.
Video is a must. The better the better...
Make sure that when you purchase one you take into consideration the most important of all... Weight. I lugged around a dell latitude cpx that felt like a brick. Even after I bought a back pack. So do yourself a favor and purchase one that is light.
Screen size is important but realize that most of the time you will be watching movies on airplanes and in the car. And remember about the screen the bigger the more chance for a pixel to go bad.. thus making you angry in the long run because most laptop manufacturers are not going to fix just one pixel they usually wait for 5 or 6 to go before they do anything. Leaving you stuck with a laptop that you get mad at all the time.

My take on it is expansion and weight. Take that advice and pick the best retailer that suits your needs. Dont guess you wont mind a 7 pounder. Make sure you go in and carry it for a bit in your arms. You will find out what is important to you... Hope I helped

YOu make good points. I was considering the 7 pounder but I am thinking you are right. It doesn't sound like much but I hav never really carried a 7 pound weight around for a few hours. The screen/pixel thing is interesting. Dead pixels do drive you nuts. I suppose with a 16 inch screen I also increase the Oh crap I nailed it on the corner of a large object surface area 🙂. I think I am going to go with a thinkpad. Let me go back to the websites. Thanks for the input.

I am looking toward the Inspiron 8500 from Dell. It has a bigger screen, bu not too big. also has the 226 bus with a mobile p4. I will be buying this through my business so and I am looking to go on a payment plan of some type. I want to stick with the dealer to see if I can get some kind of upgrade paln; every 2 years or something like that. Still looking....
