I'm looking to buy a new gas stove preferrably with a self cleaning oven and a top loading fridge w/ icemaker.

I've been doing some research but, I don't know what brands are better than others except for the high end lines. For instance I am looking at a GE range vs a Kenmore range, they have similar features with the GE about $20-30 more varying from store to store. Which brand is better in terms of reliablity and warranty?

Are there a site besides consumer reports that I can go to for this kind of stuff? Also any good stores online or perhaps a good chain store I can look at? I've been to Sears, BestBuy, Lowes, Expo, Western Appliance and Home Depot already, did I miss some? (I'm in the Bay Area btw)

Thanks guys.

whirlpool for price, amana for quality. Amana does have rebates going right now. Maybe you should look into that.

Kenmore is good and cheap, and as far as I know only SEARS sells Kenmore since Kenmore is a SEARS brand.

We owned our last fridge (Whirlpool) for 20 years, and it was still working when we gave it away. Knowing that the replacement was going to be with us for probably just as long, we shot the works on the replacement. At the time, only Amana made that "Easy Reach" drawer feature. Maybe others have copied that by now for less money.

Huh, I know when we were shopping fridges (bottom freezer) Amana wasn't that great.

At any rate, Kenmore is usually a rebadged Whirlpool or whatever. Right now we have a Kitchenaid (high end Whirlpool) fridge that's been great. Just got a GE stove so we'll see how that holds up.

I saw a Maytag at HD with that same drawer. It also had 50-50 split doors for the fridge; no partition either.

My father got one of thoes. It holds an incredible amount of stuff. Best is that part of it is filled with beer for me when I go there.

The freezer on the bottom design rules. Did it really take that long for someone to think of that design?

FWIW, GE's customer service if anything breaks during the warranty SUCKS. (i know from experience).

hmm..that doesn't sound good. both the fridge and range I am considering are GE and I'm under budget too.

I have a 10% off coupon from Lowes for being a recent mover and plan on using that at Home Depot. Home Depot has free shipping after rebate and they also give you a gift card in which the amount corresponds with the amount spent, so I'm hoping to lower the prices even further.

Frigidaire built many appliances for Kenmore, and Kenmore tend to cost more money, however Kenmore tend to have better warranty.

IMHO, It doesn?t matter what brand you get, because it all depends on luck on how long your appliance will last. (My family & friends own all different makes of appliances and they all working perfectly till they are replace with newer looking ones?most are replace between 15~20 years).

A good thing about Kenmore is the warrenty is through SEARS since only SEARS sells Kenmore. Sears warrenty service is great. They even allow yearly maitence on the applience, where someone inspects it and tunes it up.

And yes all Kenmores are rebaged products usally GE, Whirlpool, or Maytag.

Also check out Costco - Most of their Kirkland Signature brands are re-badged Whirlpool. Prices are excellent, quality is very good.

Freezer on the bottom is ancient design. Pull out drawer to access that area is new, and worth quite a bit, but not several hundred dollars.

You might wanna see if there's a sears scratch and dent outlet in your area. I think you can look it up on their site... Last weekend I got a $900 glass top electric stove for $509... When we bought our house I got my fridge there too, it was like origianlly $1200 and I think we paid about $850 or so for it. Both real nice Kenmore units... They have other brands there as well. Some stuff looks like it was hit by a truck, and some looks brand new. It's kinda hit or miss, but I have gotten lucky both times.

There is a Sears Outlet within a half hour from my house, I guess I should go check there first.

I did see a nice Whirlpool gas range at Western Appliance today marked down from $550 to $400.
