Hi, as the topic says, i'll buy a new computer tomorrow and I would need your advice, what is bad or good with my system!( All prices are in Canadien dollars)

ADM T-Bird 1,33GHZ (266mhz) = 200$ (1.4 is 250$, is it worth it?)

MotherBoard: The best board below 200$ without raid and im not planing to do any overclocking

Hard Drive: IBM Deskstar 7200T 60GXP= 190$

Video Card: MSI GeForce2 GTS 64mb DDR Pro = 205$

CdRom: Is there any difference between Sony/Panasonic/Asus/LG/Creative etc...? which one is the best

Speakers: Altec Lansing AVS300W = 50$

Sound Card: Guillemot Fortissimo 1 = 40$ (I don't really care about the sound but is that a good choice?<

Monitor: 17" Nec Accusync AS70 .27 270$ (is the Samsung 17" 750S .24 is better?

Ram: 512 megs DDR (266mhz) 150$

Case: Medium ATX 300 Watts (4 bay) = 40$

Fan: Thermaltake Chrome OrB = 24$ (would the Super Orb be usefull?

+Keyboard+mouse+modem

Total: Around 1400$ Can with taxes = around 1625$

go 1.4, might as well, but 1.2 seems a better deal.
epox 8k7a
cdrom -- dont get creative. i run scsi so i dont know much. creative sucks is all i know
speakers... hmmmm... well the sound card justifies it.
perhaps.. a santa cruz is a better investment.
try a flat monitor. 755df or 955df
get crucial ram.
a good midsized atx case is the enlight 7237
dont know much about HSF's for athlons. p3 just needs a gorb. =)

If you are currently on the anandtech boards, could you please tell me your opinion on my choices, I know there's some similard treads but every situation is different and your help is always appreciated!

Thanks a lot

well...the only problem I see is the prices (buy online man) and the fact that you dont know what motherboard you want because thats probably the most important part of a system.

I would personally get:
epox 8k7a motherboard ~150
2x 256mb crucial DDR ~100
2x maxtor 40gig 7200rpm diamond max plus ~120 each
1.2ghz Tbird ~125
non-Creative sound card, fortisimmo sounds ok.
whatever speakers, concider hooking your sterio up, its nice
Radeon 64mb DDR or that Geforce pro 64mb deal thats been kicking around in FS/T
antec sx1030 100 shipped, look in FS/T

you can get much better deals online these days, so I would never buy from a store

Sammy, I can't really buy online, I'm from Canada so I would have to pay customs fees.

(BTW, your prices were in US $$ right?)

BUY A 19" MONITOR!

I don't understand why people settle for less then 19" now...everything is very cheap and the monitor is what you're constantly looking at. Bite the bullet and go 19, you wont be dissapointed.

Some ppl dont have room 🙂

lol,you are right tuna 🙂 And I don't see the point of paying 150-175$ can to get a 19" when I can get a 17" Flat screen for 75-100$ more

<< Some ppl dont have room >>

But they're so damned short too!🙂

I swear my 19" is like 1/3 of the depth of the 17" we had. Compact these days.

<< Any other comments before I go to bed? >>

Make sure you get a good case w/ plenty of room to maneuver and w/ good airflow.

Also, if I were you I would get name brand memory (Corsair, Mushkin or Kingston - lifetime warranty).

Have fun!

sorry, didnt notice the canadian part. you can still buy online even if you are in canada. I hear there are some pretty good canadian retailers too....
