Buying a new camera

Comng up from a Sony DSC-V1, I want a camera that has full manual controls, a body big enough to grip (no CyberShot T*/PowerShot SD*** sized cameras please), and can of course take a superb picture.

Looking at:
Canon PowerShot S80
Sony DSC-W100
Sony DSC-V3

Definitely not considering:
Canon PowerShot S3IS
Sony DSC-H5
Both for not having 1/1.8" sensors, I can't imagine a 1/2.5" sensor working fine for 7 MP, and because I'll never need a 12x zoom and thus really don't need those chunky cameras; if I'm buying a camera as big as these two I'll make it count with a Digital Rebel XT or something.

EDIT: Might not actually buy the new camera, but I'm thinking about leaving the V1 behind for relatives here overseas because new cameras here are insanely expensive, so I need to think of a replacement.

Easy, Fuji F30 or the E900.
Fuji easily wins in the P&S department with their vastly superior sensor. Near DSLR quality with high ISO capabilities and beautiful colors.

Did some investigating, and I definitely like the E900, especially because the form factor reminds me of that of my V1, and its priced perfect. I have no experience with Fuji's UI though, only Canon's (which I hate) and Sony's (which I adore), could you compare it to either of the two, or better yet, tell me what its like 😛

I personally haven't used any, so I can't speak about the UI either. But the Fuji sensor could give you shots at ISO800 that looks as good as the Sony at ISO100.

Reading comprehension FTW

Canon S2 IS or S3 IS.

I'm not looking at brands per se, but looking at cameras as a whole. Does anyone know what the Sony DSC-W100 is like? I haven't been able to find any reviews for it.

I just upgraded from a Canon s70 to the s80. It's fantastic. A bunch of my relatives swear by sony, but their pics always look like crap compared to mine. 😉

The new interface and movie mode in the s80 made it worth the upgrade to me. It's so easy to switch modes now and they all look great. You will not be disapointed with the s80.

No longer considering the W100 (no manual controls), and not sure about the E900 for not having AF assist.
Are there are any downsides to buying an old (late 2004 release) camera like the Sony Cybershot DSC-V3? The only camera even close to being its successor is the DSC-R1 but its way too expensive.

Have you looked at the Kodak P850 or P880?

Too big

V3 is nice... can't really go wrong there. Haven't played w/ the S80, but I'm sure its a gem also.

I like the V3 alot too, especially because I won't have to ditch my Memory Stick Pro, its just proving to be REALLY hard to find. If I can't find it I'm just gonna go with the S80.
