Since bikes don't depreciate as fast as cars I was wondering if it'd make sense to lease one. Any thoughts on that?

That doesn't really answer his question, it just gives your opinion on leasing (not that I disagree that it's a bad idea for most people/situations).

now that i think about it, i can't think of anytime i've ever heard of someone leasing a motorcycle. plenty of people finance them, though. unfortunately if you finance you will most likely have to carry full coverage, and depending on you, your area, and the type of bike, that could mean $$$$. like 3-4 grand a year. if someone did lease bikes i wouldn't be surprised if they required the same coverage.

and bikes do depreciate, especially sport bikes. the only ones that really don't are harley's, but that's because harley owners aren't too bright.

Never heard of people lease a Motorcyle. Most dealers won't even let you test ride one till you sign papers to buy....

3-4 Grand a year for insurance (full coverage) only happens if you are under 25 and trying to insure a GSX-R. My full coverage was $700 a year on a CBR.

Yeah, I suppose, but he also asked if you can lease them in the title. I feel misled, and hereby boycott this thread.

Before I bought, years ago, I looked all over for a similar option. Kind of like an extended test ride, to make sure I wanted to get into the sport.
There was no such thing at the time, and I highly doubt there is now.
There are places that rent, however. So if you're looking to kind of "try before you buy", renting one is your only real option if you have no generous friends who'll lend you theirs. Renting is expensive though, $200+ a day around these parts, plus all the insurance and whatnot on top of that.

Your best bet is just to buy something old and cheap and burn around for the summer and see if its what you'll like. Sell it next spring for what you paid for it. Once bikes gets about 15 years old, they'll depreciate no more for the most part.

For what the actual motorcycle costs, it's not really worth leasing. I always see the manufacturers touting $40-$100 a month promotions, so with these promotions it makes the idea of leasing moot. Plus, a lot of bikes get dropped and would come to haunt you when the lease is up.
