Buying a MacBook, which option would you go with?

Ok, so I have narrowed my choices down to 2 options.

Option 1: $999 + tax
REFURB
2Ghz Core 2 Duo
13.3" screen
1GB RAM
80GB HD
6x Super Drive

Option 2: $999 + tax
NEW
2Ghz Core 2 Duo
13.3" screen
1GB RAM
80GB HD
Combo Drive
BONUS: Free iPod Nano

So the real question is, would I use the SuperDrive? Could I add one later?

So basically it's superdrive vs nano. Which would you choose? (I dont have an iPod and I DO workout frequently).

I'd go for the first option. If you just need a MP3 player for the gym, you can get a decent one for like $30.

I would go option 2. I have never burned a DVD. If nothing else you could pawn the Nano off as a gift for someone if you didn't want it.

on ebay, i can get an external superdrive for $80. That makes the choice a lot easier.

If you want an internal DVD Burner, then I think that you can get a Pioneer Slim slot loading burner for about the same cost. I am not positive if it is thin enough for the MacBook, or if it is compatible with OS X, so let me do some research.

I'd definitely go for the new one with a Nano. Even if you don't need all the capabilities of the Nano, just sell it and the net cost of your MacBook will be ~$900. Not a bad deal at all. Personally I never burn DVD's, the need rarely comes up. Now that flash drives can be had so cheap, and lots of DVD players play Divx, there's not much of a point IMO. You can always add an external one cheaply later on if needed.

The win goes to option 2. Order has been placed. Took advantage of the printer deal too. FIgured $50 for $150 printer was too good to pass up.

There is a gotya there. You paid tax on the item and then the ink for those "free printers" is very high in comparison to the more expensive models. If you got a canon, you cannot even use different off-brand cartridges... I just bought a macbook as well.

Well then I paid $67 for an ipod nano and the printer. That seems pretty good to me. Yeah, I know the ink isn't always cheap, but I will only be using it for photos. I have a laser for documents and stuff.

The printer doesn't ship for a week, so I may dump that one. Not sure it's worth $50 or not yet, but I figured I can always cancel that thing.

Congrats on the MacBook! Is this your first Mac, or is this a replacement machine?
