Buying a Macbook pro - where to buy memory

I'm pretty unfamiliar with Macs, and my cousin is getting the 13" 2.3ghz version.

He was going to get an extra 4GB from apple, and upgrade to a 500GB hard drive.

My advice to him would be get an SSD and an external if he needs extra space. Also im pretty sure an extra 4GB should not be costing 200 dollars, so i think he should just get 8gb off newegg.

My question is which SSD would you recommend on a budget, (at least 64-80GB) and which memory should he buy? (not sure if macs take different memory)

thanks

any DDR3-1333 will work. i personally have 8GB (2x4GB) g.skill DDR3-1333 sticks in my 2011 mbp and they work fine.

as for the ssd, im not sure which ones are the best for the 64-80GB range, but i did see that ocz came out with their agility 3 and solid 3 drives. since your cousin is getting the 2011/current mbp, it has sata 3 so i would recommend getting any ssd that has next-generation sandforce controller along with sata 3.

I got a 2x4GB RAM kit for my MBP and it is apple certified RAM (in case that makes a difference) for something like $90 from ncix.

I've got a vertex2 in my MBP and it works great. You could go with sandforce 3, but sandforce 2 works just great if you want to go a bit cheaper.
