Buying a laptop

Well I'm in the market for a laptop. I want something portable with good battery life(I thought that was the point of a laptop) I was looking at the IBM Thinkpad T41 and the Dell Latitude D600. The Dell is a little cheaper with pretty much the same stuff. I just wanted some input and maybe some suggestions. I'll have about 2grand.

IBM builds a solid machine, and my Inspiron 8200 was an excellent machine. IBM will probably be more durable than the Dell, but the technology in them is usually a step or two behind the rest of the industry.

Get IBM... they are usually much higher priced than equally specced Dells (and other brands), but it's worth to pay extra.... if you only have to pay a bit extra, it's an open and shut case! 🙂

The dell is like 170 cheaper or something like that. Not enough for me to say its DEFINATELY better to pay less

It's up to you if it's worth it... I'd say it is - everywhere you read about the t41, people say it's the best compromise of size vs weight ever, and a superbly-built laptop too.

Hearing from multiple people that its a good buy helps me out more. Now I have to wait for my scholarship money to come through :disgust:

Well I called IBM today and they don't have an educational discount for me, oh well. But I am going to have my dad find out if theres a federal government employee discount as someone at his work told him there was. Anyone ever ordered a Thinkpad from Newegg? I've ordered plenty of things from them, but want to know how they are with exchanging the laptop if it has a dead pixel or the like.

using my new t41, very very sleek and feels solid

keyboard is awsome

i am using all software thought it came with, probably need to get rid of some of bloatware it comes with

Do you have a digital camera, if so could you take some pics? I'm eagerly awaiting my scholarship money, because once I get it I can order it. Where did you get yours from? Also does anyone know any good portable mice, I'm also looking for portable wireless mice as the USB port is on the left and I'm right handed
