i'm going to buy either a sager or an alienware (no flamming or opinions please - i wanna keep this tech related).

i'm going to get the amd fx-60 and the 7800gtx in the laptop. my question is how soon is it going to be before you can get a faster/better processor then the fx-60 in a laptop? same for the 7800gtx - when will 7900gtx or the ati 1900xtx be on a laptop?

thanks. 🙂

You will not be able to put a better processor than the FX-60 in there. The FX-60 is the fastest Socket 939 processor that will be available.

No word on the Mobility X1900, they may even skip it (at least in consumer cards, might see a workstation version). 7900GTX also no word. But I wouldn't necessarily count on being able to swap them in. You have a better chance with a Sager/Alienware as they generally support and offer end user replaceable cards, but buying a laptop and expecting to be able to upgrade things like that don't necessarily go together.

AMD's dual core Turion is also comming out in May. According to laptoplogic.com, this will force Intel to slash prices (and AMD to do likewise) hence making laptops cheaper this summer. I'm personally waiting for the Ferrari refresh and then I'll pick up a 4000 🙂
