I need to buy a laptop for university this year, and i have about £400 to spend which is about $800, a midrange system i'm hoping for..
Just looking for some recommendations for this price range from different manufacturers. I'd also consider getting a Mac, i don't know much about them but i do like the UI, more so than Vista.. I'd mostly be writing up work, browsing the internet etc on it, nothing intensive.

Regards.

For your needs you could spend $600 and get a laptop that will more than please. Check out Dell's Vostro Line, they might still offer XP.

Edited for spelling.

core 2 duo. i like dell. if you want to game with it then go for hp. hp has non integrated video card options (meaning your video card memory won't be shared with you system ram which is a good thing).

If you can find this one for a similar price, it looks like a great deal to me:

That one looks decent, i was also looking at this one.

Doesn't look bad, but the Fujitsu will definitely outperform it since the Core 2 CPU will be significantly faster than the AMD Turion.

The difference is that big huh?
