Hi,
I've been doing a little research on laptops, since I need one for school (i need the portability to bring it back & forth on the plane). I've been mostly looking at Dells, and the Inspiron 8200. It just seems pretty heavy, but has all the options I want. I wonder how it'll feel lugging around in my backpack when i bike to the library. I also want a pretty sturdy and durable laptop since i may take it plenty of places.
Basically, the options i want are:
P4 1.6+ Ghz
256 MB RAM (is it easy to add RAM to laptops)
DVD/CD-RW
3.5 floppy
30 gig HD
I'm mostly gonna use it for school work, some occasional gaming, playing DVDs and music. (anyone know a good deal on inexpensive speakers?)
I was thinking about buying it online, through an auction possibly. Anyone have any good/bad experiences w/ laptops from auctions? I'll definitely do it Escrow so I can check it out before the payment is sent. Is the risk worth the price? Also, I was wondering if warranties are transferable. Do i need a warranty, or could i probably fix it myself or have a friend do it?
Any thoughts/opinions/suggestions are welcome. Especially any non-Dell reccomendations since I don't know alot about comparable alternatives. Please post any links to relavent articles/reviews.
Thanks in advance,
Weirdo
