buying a game... UT2004?

Is UT2004 the best game to buy right now. Been short on cash, haven't played a game in about 6 months.

Well, have you liked the other versions of UT? If you have, then I have no doubt that you will find this a very enjoyable experience. Plus, I'm sure, if you look around you will be able to find the game for less than $30.
 
I love UT2K4. Most are saying its one of the best games ever. I think it is from my game playing experience.. I'm no noob, my first PC game was Kings Quest 3 back in the day.

2004 has everything, great physics, great graphics (that look about as good as anything else on the market than perhaps FarCry but it runs on much less hardware), great performance, VOIP (voice chat), Voice CHANNELS (public, team and local for only your immediate vicinity), 100 maps are included out of the box, Assault and Onslaught mode (along with a bunch more, more typical styles), vehicles, a decent single player game with team management that kinda makes it a bit more fun, oh and voice recognition to control bots, not to mention some of the most efficient netcode and best bot AI in the industry.. only challenged by id softwares.
Yes I speak highly of this game.

Needless to say, I wont be buying another FPS game without all these features ever again. Its alot to ask for but I just cant enjoy a game anymore without VOIP/vehicles.. its going to be tough topping this game at all that it does.

I think Doom 3 will be the only other game I'll be buying in the near to far off future.. I hope it offers a decent SP experience and maybe something we dont know about in the MP game. We'll see.. but I'll be buying that one without hesitation as well.

I'm more of a fan of the "CounterStrike" gameplay (slower paced, less gay frag fests) but UT2K4 has enough and more for me to overcome that. As long as I stay out of the DeathMatch part of the game I find myself liking it enough to brand it my "favorite game of all time".
 
If you want the most incredible FPS multiplayer game ever created, go with UT2K4. UT2K4 has some features that really set it apart from every other FPS made. Lots of interesting and well throught out game modes. Weapons that have alternate modes and multiple steps for their use. Like the shock rifle is a two step weapon. The link gun can become more powerful by linking with your teammates. There are also unique dodging moves you can use to make you more mobile and help you dodge attacks. There is adrenalyne to give you an extra boost and to mix things up even more. Also, one of the most amazing features of UT is the translocator. The translocator is usually only enabled on the CTF servers, but it gives the game a faster pace and adds a new level of strategy that does not exist in any other FPS. It gives you all the tools you need. Now you just need to learn how to use them. All of these factors really help to separate the unskilled from the skilled. The replayablility of the game is amazing. Also, people come out with new maps and mods all the time to add new content to the game. Some other things UT has are superweapons, shield jump (for CTF), and vehicles (for Onslaught).
Onslaught mode has nodes (like small bases) connected by a lattice. The teams must take over each node before they can proceed to the next and eventually make it to the main base and destroy it. This is a well designed game mode that is similar to the ideas introduced by Halo, Tribes, and Planetside, but better.
I've just scratched the surface on how great this game is. The graphics are amazing. The textures used look great. You really need to get it to see for yourself. The only game that might be better than UT2K4 is the original UT.
 
I think UT2k4 has essentially made Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 not as important as they were last year. Infact I think UT2k4 will be the best of the 3, maybe not graphics wise, but gameplay wise.

In short, it's by far the best FPS out there, probably the best online multiplayer game every created as well. And its only $30 as well.

The only potential downside is the speed. As Edge said some people prefer slower paced games. I love it.
 
You morons, i bought the pirated Version of UT2004 on 3 standard CD's for guess how much, for less than $ 3, again thats 3 Dollars only, i pay the same for every other game including Far Cry etc

Actually there are a few Brand Names like Devience, Myth and Razor who Crack all these games which make the security check a Dumb Ass.

Though my UT2004 say this message " You CD Key is invalid " i tried every thing.

Can any one tell me a robust Website to provide various Crack files

I'd advise downloading the ut2k4 demo before buying it, it's about 200mb - I would otherwise have bought the game because everyone here loves it, turned out I couldn't stand it though. OTOH I love Far Cry, that demo is a 530mb download.
 
Downloading the demos for FarCry and UT2004 is a good idea (if you have broadband), and I think it depends on what you want out of a game which will determine which you like better. I have both, and I really can't say anyhting bad about either of them.
 
Buy UT2004 if you want the best multiplay experience ever.

Buy FarCry if you want the best single play experience ever.

Far Cry multiplay is buggy at best.

I'm sure 200 thousand counter strike players will disagree with you.
I'm sure people will tell you that for FPS, the original half life is the best single player experience.

There are other types of games, RTS, RPG, etc.

I think it will be close between HL2 and UT in gameplay though. Doom 3 I'm looking forward to playing, but if I put money down in any direction it'd be that it wont be mindblowing gameplay.. but plenty scary.
I enjoyed Nosferatu Wrath of Malachi for a little bit becuase it was scary, it used shadows and darkness to its advantage as well.

I will (of course) be buying HL2 without hesitating.. just updating the graphics to CS will be enough for most of the HL community.. but I really hope they deliver on the interactive environment, not just a few crates..
that magnetic gun they have looks a bit cheesy (it doesnt blow my mind). I hope they deliver soon because HL2 is looking less impressive everyday.

Doom 3, is doom 3.. it will be a good game but the engine is more interesting. Its like a new video card, not incredibly useful much over what you already have but will be in due time. 🙂
 
ut2k4 is amazing.

I play it competitively in the provinggrounds.com ladder and it was by far the best all around game I have ever played.
 
i just played the UT2004 demo for a few minutes. seems a lot like ut2k3, which impressed me for a while. I loved UT so much that I'm hoping 2004 will redeem the franchise. So far the demo isn't thrilling me. 🙁 I will consider farcry because I do very much enjoy single player gaming. I didn't realize it was so highly touted. The demo is so friggin huge though.
I've been waiting for HL2 and D3 too. I can't believe how long they've taken.
 
If you get bored of UT and its fast paced action, there's always Red Orchestra (mod for UT2k4), which is like a slower version of Call of Duty, and great fun (and free!), so you get 2 games in one, a fast paced madness game, and a slower WW2 based game.

Thank you. I think UT2K4 is the ideal modding platform, good to hear about some mods that are fun.
I do prefer the WW2 style as well. For me, its amazing a futuristic game (which I generally despise) that is a fragfest in DeathMatch mode (which I generally despise), win me over as much as it has.

I'm not nearly ready for mods yet, personally I havent scratched the surface in gameplay modes.. beat the SP which was fun and now playing Onslaught, if I ever get tired of that I'll prob try the new assault mode, then some mods.

Anyone else know of any good mods for UT? I'm going to check out this Red Orchestra.

I have only two requests for the game- 64player support and a full Desert Combat mod. 😀
Because I let go of my aging BF1942 habit.

It's my opinion of course, you have yours and everybody else have theirs.
 
Absolutely loving UT2k4 - first in the UT series i have ever played and i am not tired of it after almost 3 months of mega playtime.

CAPTURE THE FLAG mode is the only mode i seem to play - its like DM with a flag! The skills and tactics involved in CTF are like no other >>> so many memorable moments. Onslaught mode i just hate im afraid - the vehicles do nothing for me.

Also, once u have found a favourite server, you continue to meet the same ppl time and time again, which lends itself to creating a happy, friendly competitive environment. I have as much fun laughing with ppl during play as i do fragging them - its quite simply beautiful the way it all comes together to bring a thrilling gaming experience to the player.
 
All of us AT members who have UT2K4 should meet on a server and play together sometime.
It'd be a good opportunity for those who have differed with me in the past to give me the old one-two!!

I havent figured out how the buddy list works exactly, I think you have to use the same username for it to work.. which isnt great for me I like to change my name alot for no particular reason. 🙂

Like i said before, i have found my favourite server now, CTF of course, and am meeting the same ppl time-and-time again. Its cool playing the same ppl as you form a sorta 'UT-relationship' {as sad as that may sound}, which makes the game all the more fun as it gives way to some healthy competition. That wouldnt work of course if you keep changing your username.
