Buying a franchise?

The mighty google and I have been pounding out a little research for and I really haven't found anything that lists the info I want to know. Everything I've looked at wants to sell me something. Does anyone have a franchise or been looking into getting a franchise have any links to share? I'm looking more along the lines of costs and profitablity vs the typical FAQ of franchising.

Entrepreneur.com is a pretty decent website.
 
The sandwich market is pretty saturated around here. The dippin' dots franchises look interesting since they can be ran from kiosks.
