In 1999, I bought a KDS Visual Sensations 18" monitor that has been extremely satisfying. The visual quality is great, and it suprisingly high-quality for a KDS display. I think that KDS was experimenting with a high-quality ($500) display at the time, because I have never seen another display like this from KDS.

My friend is building a new computer, and I want him to get the same experience from his next CRT. These days, it seems that manufacturers try to rip you by building the cable permanently into the unit. I find that unacceptable, as I have had to replace many monitor cables in the past.

What is a good, flat or almost-flat, CRT of a decent size ( > 17") for a good price? I'm not sure what he's expecting, but I'm pretty sure he's not looking to pay $400 for a display (works at Taco Bell).

I'm wondering the same thing... I am looking for a big (21" or so) monitor, and I found a Dell P1110 monitor, FD Trinitron-based, for $189 plus shipping... It's a refurb unit, and I think its a few years old... And I'm wondering if that's a good deal, or if it's really just inferior to the newer Trinitrons out there. I've decided I want a Trinitron, myself, and I don't mind paying for it... $189 seems really cheap for a 21" Trinitron. I know ViewSonic and Samsung make good 17-19" monitors for fairly cheap, as well. I just don't like their picture quality as much as Trinitron tubes...

Where do you live? and you can get a refurbished crt for pretty cheap from places like merkortech.com (is that the right site?) If you don't want to spend a tonne of money and still get a good monitor... or if you are in Canada just go to www.canadamonitors.com
