i was looking at ibuypower.com's website, and i really liked their prices and customization options. i configured a computer to what i wanted, and it fit under my budget. before placing the order, i thought i'd do a little background check to see what people thought of them. came up with quite a few bad reviews, either delayed shipping date, wrong parts in the machine, or just all around bad support.

so i thought i'd look at dell... but it seems like their kinda expensive unless you get the perfect deal. plus they dont specify what brand of hardware they use. i'd really like a plextor cdrw and a western digital hd.

can anyone recommend any good places to buy a system from? that allows for lots of customization and has a good reputation?

Get some help. Firsthand help is great. It's how I built my first computer. Otherwise, you can always ask us on AT.

Got any friends who know how?

Maybe if you're nice you could pay an ATer in your city to put it together for ya...

It's really not that hard. Just RTFM (read the fvcking manual) and you'll be fine. I built my first rig at the beginning of this year and have done a few builds/rebuilds since then with absolutely no problems. The only skills needed to build your own rig is the ability to read and pay attention to what you're doing. Plus you have a great support community here to help you out in the unlikely event you do have a problem :)

Try and stick with brand name parts and you should do just fine. Get a good 865PE board for starters and see what the reviewers are saying at Newegg and ask around AT when the time comes to piece it all together.

I noticed that pcs made by big companies are lots better than the ones you can assemble. Look lots better, are quiet and they're warranted. I don't think I'd want to build anything myself now b/c now I know it will never be as good (well, for what I need in a pc).

really, i've noticed the exact opposite. ones i build seem to be faster than ones pre-built. for some reason pre-built ones just always have some weirdass problem like lagging up for no good reason. i don't really care that much about looks... and i'm sure i could get it quiet if tried (got the right fans and stuff).

Haha, I am posting from it now.

Actually the fact that you are posting from your new computer is a testament to the help one can get from other members here:)

Go with Dell, you get a machine that works straight out of the box, a waranty, an OS, and customer support.
